Heritages of Hunger<\/a><\/em> addresses Europe\u2019s social divisions by exploring how famines (1845\u20131947) are remembered and taught in schools, museums, and heritage sites. While these crises highlight negative legacies of war and neglect, they also showcase trans-European solidarity through relief efforts. The project examines whether educational practices emphasize conflict or foster mutual understanding and explores their relevance to European immigrant communities. Key outputs include a MOOC, a database of famine legacies, and policy recommendations to promote alternative teaching practices. By linking local and national histories to broader European contexts, the project aims to foster reconciliation and strengthen transnational identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heritages of Hunger<\/a><\/em> gaat in op de sociale verdeeldheid in Europa door te onderzoeken hoe hongersnoden (1845-1947) worden herinnerd en onderwezen in scholen, musea en erfgoedsites. Terwijl deze crises de negatieve erfenis van oorlog en verwaarlozing benadrukken, tonen ze ook trans-Europese solidariteit door middel van hulpacties. Het project onderzoekt of onderwijspraktijken conflicten benadrukken of wederzijds begrip bevorderen en onderzoekt hun relevantie voor Europese immigrantengemeenschappen. Tot de belangrijkste resultaten behoren een MOOC, een database van erfenissen van hongersnood en beleidsaanbevelingen om alternatieve onderwijspraktijken te bevorderen.
