Onze fysieke bijeenkomst op de ochtend van 17 december komt te vervallen. In plaats daarvan organiseren wij in februari een online meeting om de recente ontwikkelingen binnen de route toe te lichten en de activiteiten voor de komende periode aan te kondigen, waaronder de nieuwe ORC-call voor 2026. De middagsessie op 17 december gaat zoals gepland door.
Want we blikken terug op een vol 2025:
Aan de start van het jaar werden de projecten Heritages of Hunger en COHERENT formeel afgesloten, met bijeenkomsten en mooie publicaties! Begin dit jaar konden vanuit de NWA regeling “Innovatieve Projecten” drie projecten op het thema “Duurzaamheid en Temporaliteit” starten: De Bomenluisteraar; Het Eeuwige Bewaren? En Nature beyond the Present. En in juli werd bekend dat op het NWA-ORC2024 thema “Plaatsen van Waarden. Contextbewust onderhandelen over de toekomst van historisch beladen plekken” het grote project Traumascapes: Valuing, Negotiating and Sharing Sites of Trauma, Pain and Loss in 2026 van start zal gaan.
Gedurende het jaar heeft het route management, met de stuurgroep hard gewerkt aan de totstandkoming van een thema vanuit onze route voor de ORC2026 Call, getiteld “Duurzaam herinneren. Natuurinclusieve kennis van het verleden voor een ecologisch-duurzame toekomst”. Daartoe zijn diverse consultaties georganiseerd, onder ander in samenwerking met de KNHG, en met het NIOO. In het najaar hebben we het concept thema verder aangescherpt met een verbrede schrijfgroep, met daarin diverse ecologen, transitiewetenschappers en maatschappelijke partners uit natuur, milieu en landbouw. Het thema is op 11 december positief beoordeeld en de call zal binnenkort verschijnen.
Save the date: de verplichte matchmakingbijeenkomsten voor deze call worden door NWO georganiseerd op vrijdag 13 februari 2026 en dinsdag 17 maart 2026.
Ook hebben we als route management actief deelgenomen aan bijeenkomsten, processen en raadplegingen vanuit (o.a.) NWO zelf over de toekomst van de Nationale Wetenschapsagenda (NWA) zelf, de Nationale Onderzoeksraad Erfgoed over de (net verschenen) Erfgoedonderzoek in stroomversnelling. Nationale Onderzoeksagenda 2026-2030, de Faro Uitvoeragenda en het Netwerk Levend Erfgoed over het initiatief Democratisering van Erfgoedonderzoek.
Met nieuwe agenda’s, projecten, netwerken en calls, kijken we dus enorm uit naar 2026 en verder. Als speciaal onderwerp organiseren we een kleine ronde tafel over de maatschappelijke impact die voorzien wordt in het thema Duurzaam herinneren.

- Verbeterde ecologische duurzaamheidspraktijken voor natuur, milieu en landbouw
- Meer ruimte voor historisch bewustzijn in het duurzaamheidsbeleid.

Our physical meeting on the morning of 17 December has been cancelled. Instead, we will be organising an online meeting in February to explain the recent developments within the route and to announce the activities for the coming period, including the new ORC call for 2026. The afternoon session on 17 December will go ahead as planned.
Because we are looking back on a busy 2025:
At the start of the year, the Heritages of Hunger and COHERENT projects were formally concluded with meetings and beautiful publications! At the beginning of this year, three projects on the theme of “Sustainability and Temporality” were launched under the NWA “Innovative Projects” scheme: The Tree Listener, Eternal Preservation?, and Nature beyond the Present. Morevoer in July, it was announced that the major project Traumascapes: Valuing, Negotiating and Sharing Sites of Trauma, Pain and Loss will be launched in 2026 under the NWA-ORC2024 theme “Placing Values. Context-aware negotiation about the future of historically charged sites”.
Throughout the year, the route management team worked hard with the steering group to develop a theme based on our route for the ORC2026 Call, entitled ‘Sustainable Remembrance. Nature-inclusive knowledge of the past for an ecologically sustainable future”. To this end, various consultations were organised, including in collaboration with the KNHG and the NIOO. In the autumn, we further refined the concept theme with an expanded writing group, including various ecologists, transition scientists and social partners from nature, the environment and agriculture. The theme was positively assessed on 11 December and the call will be published shortly.
Save the date: the mandatory matchmaking meetings for this call will be organised by NWO on Friday 13 February 2026 and Tuesday 17 March 2026.
As route management, we also actively participated in meetings, processes and consultations organised by (among others) NWO itself on the future of the National Science Agenda (NWA), the National Research Council for Heritage on the (recently published) Heritage Research in Acceleration: National Research Agenda 2026-2030, the Faro Implementation Agenda and the Living Heritage Network on the Democratisation of Heritage Research initiative.
With new agendas, projects, networks and calls, we are very much looking forward to 2026 and beyond. As a special topic, we are organising a small round table discussion on the social impact envisaged in the theme of Remembering sustainably.
